Overview
The visualizations tab is where the most time editing the cosmetic portion of the report is spent. It can be found on the right side of the window. A visualization is a visual representation of the inputted data. By default, there are 40 to choose from, including pie charts, bar charts, tables, etc. There are more available by clicking on the three dots, however these oftentimes need to be paid for.
Format Page
Using the format page tab on the right side of the window (indicated by the page and paint brush), settings about the report itself can be modified. This includes page information, canvas settings, canvas background, wallpaper, filter pane and filter cards. This is where the report can be made larger or smaller and given a custom resolution. You can switch directly back to "build visual" tab by clicking the icon directly to the left.
Tutorial (Part 3)
Creating a card visualization
Creating visualizations is a relatively straightforward process. First, click the card icon. This will cause a visualization to appear in your report.
Let's display the measure we created in the last step. Start by highlighting the visualization we just created by clicking on it. To ensure that the visualization is highlighted, there should now be three tabs below "Visualization".
Now drag the "Volume Won" measure into the "Fields" box.
Congratulations, a visualization was just created, displaying the "Volume Won" measure. The size of this card can be modified by adjusting the corners or edges of the tile. More properties of the card can be found by clicking the bar graph and paintbrush icon in the visualization tab.
Try changing some aesthetic properties of the card!
Creating a column chart
First, click the column chart icon.
Next, adjust the size of the chart to fit the width of the window.
Then, add the type to the x axis and the size to the y axis.
The titles of the axis can be changed by double clicking on the fields we just added.
This is the end of the tutorials, you now have a working knowledge of Power BI. Please navigate to Other Features to learn more about what Power BI is capable of.
